Evaluation 6-

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation 5-

How did you attract/address your audience?

In the link above you will find a video of me interviewing my sister Tasha O'Connor. She is 18 years old so fits into my target audience perfectly. (You will also see Meg the cat however, she refused to answer any questions so just lay there.) Tasha is a English Literature student so even though she hasn't taken media so doesn't know the terminology i know that she has an exemplary critical eye as she has to pick apart books in the way we pick apart films. I am very happy with Tasha's comments about my work and i've taken the criticism on board for when I go ahead to make my A2 piece.

Evaluation 4-

Who would be the audience for your media product?

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Directors Commentary script:

Today i will be discussing the key features of my opening and then why they're key features but also why why chose to do them as we did.
The first thing you hear is an old film reel noise, I think this is a key feature as it implies that our film is an old film which we really wanted to make clear from the offset. It also worked really well with the transition of the production logo as the logo enters and exits the film in a way that looks like a going film reel.
The sound continues into the first scene and merges with our first song. We chose that song as the song is about finally finding true love and settling down, it is also a very common wedding song (we looked into it when choosing what songs we wanted to use.)
Next we decided to use the zoom, we did this as we thought it added more of a personal touch to the film but also brings the focus even more so onto the to characters facial expression and emotions. We used it also for the scene where they're leaving the church for the same reason. Another key feature is the effect on the whole film, we used an effect called Aged Film I think its a key feature as it runs throughout the whole film but it it is like the old film reel noise at the start it is there to remind the audience that it an old film and together with the filming style of tracking it makes it look like an old home filmed which is the effect we really wanted.
In the second half of the film where he beings to abuse her we heighted all of the colours to make the film I chose to do this as I wanted to make it look like a heightened sense of reality almost like a dream state, dabbling with the colours during the editing stage was such fun it started off being a joke and just to try and test out what IMovie could do but it ended up working out really well for us. So we decided to try and enhance the sound on the film too which I think worked really well it again highlights what hes doing with opening the vodka and drinking it too but it also makes the static sound more prominent so again helping with the old film style.
The next key feature is where the film turns to the colour blue, I again was just messing around with tints over the film I wanted to originally use a rose colour or a red but due to the poor quality of the footage it blurred out all of the film almost into a moosh. So I did some thinking about the different connotations of different colours and I remembered that blue is a cold colour and we could use to it show the brokenness and the coldness between the two signifying the breakdown of their relationship and when I looked up the colour blue and its connotations it told me that in German to feel blue translates into alcoholic which also fits in with our theme. We decided to change it to blue when he walked round the corner into the bedroom until she sits on the sofa as that is the abusive scene.
We put it in slow motion when our male character walks round the corner because I really wanted to show off his body language and how he's walking. He is almost bobbing up and down, I asked him to do this as it reminds me of how a boxer prepares for a fight, psyching himself up i wanted it to look like our male character wasn't done with his wife that throwing her up against a wall wasn't good enough and he wanted to hurt her more.
We used a fade to black after he says 'don't you fucking pick that up' because I wanted it to show the change in his personality, him being abusive verbally and physically to his wife to nice and polite to her mother on the phone.
Finally the last key feature is the title at the end Rose Tinted. We chose the title rose tinted because of the expression 'Seeing the world through rose tinted glasses' it means that you only see the good in something/someone that you ignore all of the bad things focusing on the pleasant things. which is exactly what our female character does, she ignores the abuse and  violence by focusing on what their relationship used to be like hence the wedding scene being shown at the start of the opening.

Uploading

The process of getting it onto the interweb!!!!

Before we are able to get it out into the world we have to compress the file so its its compatible with the servers. We will be uploading our piece to Youtube.

This is it! its out there on youtube!! took awhile to upload but finally its there!

we shared it on to our own facebook pages to show our friends and families and hopefully we'll get some feedback on what they all thought of our work..good or bad any comments will be helpful when we come to evaluating our work. I also shared in on my twitter page I did this in hope that it will reach a larger amount of people as I have over a thousand followers.

Filming Problems

Even though our filming didn't go as smoothly as we wanted it too, we managed to get it DONE.

We didn't realise that when filming on a phone that if we're holding the phone portrait when we transfer it to imovie it was landscape too with black bits either side and when we rotated the footage to get rid of the black sides it stretched the image.
The main issue I have with this is that there isnt anything that we can do about it...besides make it work, when we added the credits on we had them to the right side making the black sides look on purpose.

LOCATION SHOOTING WOO

Before we started filming we thought it best to take some test shots of our location to give us an idea of what our film will look like but also to test things like the lighting, angles.

This is the room where we will be shooting Ollie's character pushing about Ophelia's character, we had the main light off and then the lamp shining onto the bed creating a shadow on her side of the bed to try and show that she is in his shadow and less important than he is.
This is the church entrance that we will be shooting from, at this point in our film the 'happy married couple' will exit and walk towards the camera smiling and laughing, from this point we will add the fade into the new abusive relationship. (Yes that is me posing, dont I look cool)

The Union Jack sofa is where the female character sits on to hide, this isnt the right angle as when we filmed it, it looked better if we filmed it from directly behind the character to fit in with our theme of an old film tape recording.

Besides the church this is where we set our project! Lara's Pool house, it has everything we needed so we only had to shoot in two locations! which under our circumstances was brilliant!
This is me on set being fireman lifted by Ollie, thought it was a moment that had to be documented, sorry for the poor quality of my camera skills.
This is Ophelia in her costume for the second half of the filming, this was before we had messed up her makeup to make her look like she had been crying.
The scene where Ollie is punching the bag, hes got the gloves on here. ( you cant see them because hes blurred) We asked him to wear the gloves for the test shots so that he didnt damage his hands....as he liked to see how hard he could punch it.

This is the inside of the Church we filmed in. This is the shot that we used when filming the consermation of the marriage, however when we took the test shot we hadn't worked out how to turn the lights on...hence the darkness.

(more images and costume/make up to come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Mid way hick-up

As Lara and I know the storyline back to front and we know about the back story we seemed to overlook certain things and we thought we may so we asked our teacher Mr Bunce to give it a watch and tell us what he thinks is good and bad! - realistically we just wanted to know what we should improve to make it even better.

He told us that there is a slight flaw in the storyline, if you dont know the back story that is. Its a man doing some boxing and then without giving a reason goes in and starts to beat up his wife....the question was why? why did he just go in and wake up his wife and push her about.

SO

We decided the way around this was to add in a small extra scene of Ollie saying something to let the audience know why he is pushing her about.

We will be filming as soon as the half term is over. - we settled on Thursday 26th.
Onwards and Up!

Sound Effects

The only sound effect we are going to add in is the sound of an old film reel. As our film has been made to look like an old fashioned film we thought it'd be an appropriate introducing sound into our section of the film. To tell the audience that the film is set out like an old family hand held camera film.

the choices:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it4vOMqK2yk

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS3DKc-yOe8

my personal favourite is the first clip, the other two almost sound like aeroplanes about to take up or an engine whereas the first is spot on. This sound effect will be played when we show our production logo before the film clip starts.

Title

After a long time thinking about what to name our film we decided on  Rose Tinted. We chose this name because of the saying 'when you're wearing rose tinted glasses'

rose-tinted glasses

(British, American & Australianalso rose-tinted spectacles (British)
if someone looks at something through rose-tinted glasses, they see only the pleasant parts of it She has always looked at life through rose-tinted glasses.

We have related this to how our main female character is only seeing the good things in her husband and is ignoring the abusive side of him by letting it continue.

Updates on Music

As our whole piece changed we had to change the music. We decided on two songs for the two different sections of our film.

We settled on the song At last by Etta James and then a cover of Say Something by Jake Quickenden

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-cbOl96RFM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVV-h-p6igU

We chose these two contrasting songs to show contrast in their relationship at the beginning to the end.  -

update on actors.

Life saver

As you may have read we have had a fair few troubles with pinning down an actor for our male role. Our first actor - Henry couldn't act as he was called into a last minuet meeting and then our backup Jacob was told by his boss three hours before we were set to film that he had to go ride ( He is a jockey) SO we finally found someone Ollie ( life saver)

Name: Oliver Lavis
Age: 18 years

Luckily our female actress was around so we didnt have to find a replacement and she was super.

Updated Script

Because of time constraints and lack of facilities available to us we had to completely change our story and in doing so our script to be able to complete it in the time we had.

Vicar:
(passage from bible)

Male: i love you

Female: I love you too

Male: You're mine forever now

Male: Don't you dare fucking pick that up

Male: Hello sandra, its brad. Yh just letting you know Elizabeth's asleep right now and ill get her to call you back when shes awake. Bye.

Problems when filming

Uh Oh we're in trouble...

We experienced a few major problems when we finally got to our filming stage, the first and largest problem was that our actor bailed on us...on the day...3 hours before we were meant to start filming and our back up guy was then unavailable. We were so stuck and obviously freaked out! Lara and Iwere frantically asking any boy and man that we knew that might be available that night to act for us! Luckily we found a guy, Ollie Lavis a friend from school who was able too ( life saver!!) Who ended up being perfect for the role, he took it very seriously and did well! Funnily he decided he wanted a friend to come for moral support Sam Flippance who eventually ended up being a part of our film!

If things weren't going terribly at this stage we got to the church took a few test shots and the camera died. Thankfully Lara owns a new iPhone (which does have a high quality camera) so we ended up using her phone - which went smoothly and has come out really nicely. Neither of us had access to a tripod which in actually worked out better for us as we found a different style of filming, we shot it in a documentary style - following the characters which added a realistic touch and added to the intensity of there not being many spoken lines in the piece. However the battery life was awful so we did have a lot of stop, start, pause filming.

As Ollie didn't have access to a script before hand we had to change it by minimising his lines, we gave him a few short simple sentences which he would repeat just before we started to film. Once we thought that all possible obstacles were over come we got to lesson to start our editing and the phone didn't connect to iMovie, it didn't recognise it as a valid device so we tried to find the IT technicians to see if they knew what to do but it appeared they were on their lunch break so we couldn't do it in the lesson but had to wait until we got home to do it on a private computer! And one small problem was that sam wasn't able to gain a costume in the time given so we tried to make him look as smart as possible however his socks had pink toes which stood out a lot - making it look less realistic.

RISK assessments ( ahhh)
